How to make a focal point in your garden...

A focal point in the garden can be separated into many categories. When adding any kind of focal point into the garden consider the size and shape of the garden. Think about how it will benefit the space and what you want to achieve by adding a focal point/feature.

Trees

Trees are a great focal feature to add to any size garden available in a variety of shapes and sizes. Trees are great for adding some shape and structure to a lost garden space. Highly practical they also provide shade in the summer months and provide a wonderful habitat for wildlife. The Juneberry is an example of a year round tree which is a well branched and bushy small tree, great for courtyard gardens. This type of tree will attract birds by the beautiful berries it produces and gives your garden added colour in the autumn with its fiery leaves.

Add a Seating Area

A well planned seating area in a garden can extend your home and provide an extra space to socialise and gather. Seating around a fire pit is extremely popular at the moment as it can be enjoyed throughout the seasons. If you are wanting somewhere to sit and relax a garden bench can always work as well. Add some subtle outdoor lighting or candles and create a zen like space to enjoy outdoors.

Garden Ornaments

Garden ornaments  provide unique art and eye-catching designs that really add interest to any flowerbed or topiary. There are so many styles and finishes to choose, be sure to select one that will withstand the elements if it is going to be left outdoors all year long. Hanging garden art to a garden shed or outbuilding can certainly add interest and be a talking point of your garden. The non intrusive design of garden art is what makes it very popular for both big and small garden areas, it adds a unique touch without overpowering the whole garden.

These are just a few ideas of what a focal point can be and bring into your garden this year. The best garden focal point as the name suggests needs to draw the eye's attention, add interest and be practical. If you achieve all three of these things then you cant really go wrong.
