What can I plant around my fire pit?
When using a fire pit in the garden it is important to consider the environment surrounding it. The heat and ash from the open fire can damage and cause plants to wilt.
Plants that will benefit from being close to the fire pit include Lavender and Sage. These plants prefer a drier climate so will make the most of this type of a hot fire pit being close by. Herbs are the obvious choice as they can be used to infuse the meat being cooked. Having them at hand when cooking outdoors can be a real benefit.
Perennials flower in autumn which makes them great to add to the atmosphere of a fire crackling on a chilly winter evening. Make the most of your fire pit this winter, with the chill in the air it creates a cosy garden atmosphere.
Never plant to near a fire pit which is in a permanent position. Consider the size that the plant will grow too. Wooden and plastic pots should be kept well away from the fire pit. Always remember that fire pits can be dangerous if not used correctly so always use with caution. Always make sure the surface you have the fire pit on is secure and able to withstand the heat produced.
